Do you love to work out and have natural hair? Don’t let your hair overpower your fitness routine! A lot of women say that they have a hard time managing their natural hair when working out. Exercising with natural hair can be a challenge, but there are things that you can do to make the process more manageable. Here are some hair care tips that will help keep your hair maintained and protected while you work out.

Of course while working out, you will sweat, however washing your hair on a daily basis is not recommended for natural hair, as daily shampooing strips the hair of its natural oils. An alternative to washing your hair daily is to co-wash your hair. Try using a detangling co-wash if you work out regularly! Co-washing is the act of washing your hair solely with conditioner. If your hair is curly, this could be a great benefit to your hair care routine.

Since curly hair tends to lack moisture, keep your hair moisturized. When you sweat from working out, it can increase dryness, which causes breakage and limp hair. After you remove the buildup in your hair by washing or co-washing, it is imperative to keep your hair moisturized. Use a leave-in conditioner that is lightweight and moisturizing which can be used on a daily basis. Deep conditioning on a regular basis also helps to keep your hair moisturized.

If you exercises often, then using a protective style is highly suggested. Whether it's your natural hair or added human or synthetic hair, wearing a protective style promotes healthy hair and added convenience. It keeps your natural hair protected during your workout and will give you at least a week or two in between washing. A few protective styles you can try include buns, twists, ponytails, braids and so much more.

While you are working out, slick down your edges and tie your hair up, as the sweat from exercising may make your hair a little frizzy. It will also help to prevent breakage to your ends that can be caused by your hair rubbing against your clothing. Tying your hair up will also protect your hair from excessive sweat while working out. Try using some edge control with added vitamins or oils to slick down your edges and add protection during your workout.

Don't let a little sweat prevent you from being fit. And don't let being fit prevent you from having healthy manageable hair. Following these tips can make hair maintenance a breeze when you workout regularly.
